A pretty complex tale, Callie’s Last Dance sees Sensory Resources trying to find a new agency director following the death of Lou Kelly, while Donovan Creed gets closer to Callie Carpenter and a young girl plots to get to the top in Vegas.
Fans of Locke’s Donovan Creed character will be pleased to know that this is in some ways familiar territory, with plenty of the author’s trademark wit and narrative brilliance. However,Callie’s Last Dance is also a book that pushes at the boundaries just a little, offfering a new side to Donovan Creed that looks set to develop further in future books.
Part of the appeal of the book is the character of Callie, who is far more than just a one-note presence. Her relationship with Creed is the driving force of a novel that is certainly not short of interesting hooks. There’s definitely still life in the Donovan Creed franchise, which looks to be heading in some intriguing directions.
