Indie authors J.A. Konrath, Scott Nicholson and Blake Crouch have launched a three day sale in which most of their ebooks drop down to 99 cents. Announcing the sale via his blog, Konrath acknowledges that the move is something of an experiment, and admits that in the past he’s been critical of the ‘race to the bottom’ and the 99 cent price point in general.
The sale comes just a few days after C.J. Lyons got multiple books up near the top of the rankings with a 99 cent sale on her Hart & Drake and Shadow Ops titles. While there’s still a lot of debate regarding reader perception of the 99 cent price point, it looks like at least some of those who look down on such cheap books are more interested if the price is perceived as a short-term promotional offer rather than a regular price.
It’ll take a few days to see how the promotion works out. The C.J. Lyons promotion got half a dozen of her books in the Top 10 Kindle Indie Books list, with a few of them staying there now that they’ve gone back to their regular price. With so many books available, the combined forces of Konrath, Nicholson and Crouch could make a serious impression in the bestseller lists over the next few days.
