Project Gutenberg, the ebook service dedicated to providing free ebook versions of classic texts, has launched a new self-publishing platform for contemporary authors. Authors can share their work for free, and readers can provide feedback and comments.
The new self-publishing platform provides PDF format editions of books, compatible with ereaders such as the Kindle and the iPad. The platform is obviously still in its infancy, but Project Gutenberg has strong name recognition and a large, engaged group of readers. There’s clearly potential for books to get constructive criticism beyond the love it / hate it responses that tend to be common on Amazon.
Traditionally, Project Gutenberg has been focused exclusively on the electronic recreation of classic texts that are out of copyright. They hope to have a million ebooks available on the site within the next year.

How exciting. I love Project Gutenberg and have found the most interesting online books with rare and wonderful illustrations/woodcuts. This new project will be a great platform for serious writers to share their work, For those stories with accompanying illustrations, even greater.
