Abby Dartley is taken off to China by her employer Dominic Corisi, but Dominic has more on his mind than just a business trip. Seeing Abby as a good candidate for some no-frills, uncomplicated sex, Dominic also relishes a challenge. But Abby soon finds herself in a difficult position, and her actions could spell disaster for Dominic and company.
Maid for the Billionaire is a cut above a lot of the romance novels I’ve read recently. The premise is interesting and ambitious, and Ruth Cardello has clearly put some effort into trying to come up with a pair of interesting protagonists. Abby is a memorable character who carries the book effortlessly, and the trip to China provides a novel background.
Of course, there are inevitably some erotic moments and these hold up well. But this is character-driven romance and thankfully the non-erotica elements feel, for once, like they’re there to tell a story rather than simply to provide an excuse to move from one sex scene to another. The Legacy Collection series, of which this is the first volume, looks like it could be a winner.
