Comedians from The NSFW Show have scored an unlikely hit on the iBookstore after they launched a parody erotic novel. The Diamond Club, which is credited to Patricia Harkins-Bradley, is up to #4 on the site’s chart at the time of writing, behind only the Fifty Shades… trilogy by E.L. James. What’s more, the book has already racked up more than 1,000 reviews, most of them positive, thanks to a review-drive launched by the book’s authors.
The book tells the story of Brianna Young, who sets out to gain revenge on her love rival Roman Dyle by entering the mysterious Diamond Club. From there, the book becomes a crowd-sourced tale of erotic intrique. Frankly, were it not for the heads-up, many readers (including this one) would probably not immediately realise that the book is a parody at all. Here are the book’s creators discussing their work.
This isn’t the first time that an erotic parody has hit the bestseller charts. Earlier this year, Anthony Shaffer’s Fifty Shames of Earl Grey was picked up by Da Capo, while back in the 1960s Mike McGrady’s Naked Came the Stranger enjoyed considerable success with readers who didn’t realise it was intended to be a parody.
