Warner Bros has picked up the film rights to Beautiful Disaster, the romantic novel that Jamie McGuire initially self-published before signing a deal with Simon & Schuster’s Atria imprint. Producer Donald DeLine (The Green Lantern) is reportedly involved in the deal.
Beautiful Disaster is the story of Abby Abernathy, who tries to reinvent herself in college after experiencing some dark events in her past. She soon gets caught up with Travis Maddox, however, and her new life looks set to crumble. In an interview with Indie BookSpot, McGuire said she turned to self-publishing after sending out query letters for her earlier book Providence.
There’s no word on when the Beautiful Disaster film is expected to arrive, or who might play the leads. But the film deal is another example of the success of indie authors and the willingness of traditional companies to swoop in when they spot a hit.
