Aspiring baseball star Cage York has a problem: he’s been pulled over on a DUI and now his coach is insisting he spends the summer baling hay to make amends. That’s when he meets Eva Brooks. At first they seem to be like chalk and cheese, but slowly they get to know one another and soon it looks like romance could be on the cards.
While It Lasts is one of those romance novels that finds an unusual way to throw together two fairly familiar character types, and then invites the reader to sit back and enjoy the fireworks. When these books work, it’s because the author is able to make the characters stand out from the crowd in subtle ways, and because the writing is strong and snappy. On both counts, Abbi Glines delivers a great romance that lingers in the memory long after the final page.
If you read the synopsis and started to sigh, then a book like this isn’t for you. But if you’re into romance novels, While It Lasts is definitely worth a read. It’s also a little more edgy that most others in the genre, with Cage York coming across as a genuine bad boy rather than one of those all-too-common vanilla types.
