StoryBundle launches Pay-What-You-Want bundling service

StoryBundle has launched its first Pay-What-You-Want bundle of ebooks. The Big Bang Bundle contains five indie titles in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. Readers can choose what they want to pay, but there’s a minimum price of $1 for the bundle and if they hand over at least $7 they will get a couple of additional books.

The titles in this first bundle are by Geoffrey Morrison, Lou Hood, Michael Kayatta, Joseph Lallo and Joseph Nassise, with the two bonus books being by Lallo and Kayatta. The books have no DRM, so they should be readable on pretty much any device, and buyers can choose to donate 10% of the money they pay to either MightyWriters or Trees For the Future.

StoryBundle specifically states that it aims to give exposure to indie authors who haven’t hit the New York Times bestseller lists. The site’s operators say that they choose books that they themselves have enjoyed, but on their FAQ page they also say that authors can submit their work for consideration.
