The KDP Select borrow rate for July was $2.04, according to Amazon. That’s the third month in a row that it’s fallen after a high of $2.48 back in April.
Crucially, the rate is now below the $2.09 that an author would receive for a purchase of a $2.99 book at the 70% rate. However, it’s still ahead of the royalty rate for a 99 cent book at the 35% rate.
The total fund for KDP Select in July 2012 was $600,000, which suggests that there were just over 294,000 borrows during the month. The fund for August is $600,000 once again and, if the current trend continues, we’ll see the rate dip below $2 for the first time since January.
