Kobo launches New Voices scheme to promote new authors

Kobo has launched a New Voices scheme that aims to promote new authors and aid discoverability. Today they’ve picked Shine Shine Shine author Lydia Netzer, interviewing her on the Kobo blog, and they say they’ll be picking a new author each day during the promotion. They’re using the #KoboNewFiction hashtag on Twitter to encourage discussion of the authors they feature.

Along with the interviews, there’s a New Voices in Fiction sale where selected titles are reduced to $4.99. The sale runs until August 19th, and it’s not clear whether the New Voices scheme is just a short burst or whether this is something that Kobo’s going to be doing in the long-run.

Kobo has been making a concerted push in recent months to put itself right up at the front of the ebook market. Along with their much-hyped and much-discussed launch in Japan, Kobo seems to be trying to get more self-published authors into their catalogue, via programs such as the launch of Kobo Writing Life.
