Any New Books? is offering a new service that could be invaluable for readers: email notification of new titles in specific genres. Users sign up, indicate the genres they’re interested in, and receive a new selection of titles each week by email.
The emails clearly mark out whether the book is available in print, Kindle or both formats, though they seems to be focused on Amazon at the moment. The selections are hand-picked each week by the site’s staff, with the idea being to help readers cut through the deluge of new titles and find some that have been recommended by people who (hopefully!) know what they’re talking about.
This kind of curatorial guide to new releases has been desperately needed for a while now. Any New Books?, or if not them then a similar site, is likely to get it right soon and produce a service that really takes off. It could also be big business, and I’m sure publishers will start wanting to form relationships with people who generate influential lists. For now, Any New Books? seems like something of a pioneer in an area that’s likely to get pretty crowded.
