It seems like self-published authors are being snapped up by traditional publishers nearly every day at the moment, with Sara Fawkes being the latest example, but Ruth Cardello seems to have bucked the trend by turning down a seven-figure book deal.
Speaking to Jeff Rivera, the Bedding the Billionaire author said that she received a number of offers, including the one worth seven figures, but that so far she hasn’t taken any of them because she feels that self-publishing makes more sense at the moment. She seems to be leaving the door open to change her mind, but she seems to be happy with the income she’s getting at the moment and apparently the other supposed advantages of a traditional deal haven’t turned her head yet.
She also uses the interview to talk about how she decided to put her first book up for free after it had been turned down by publishers. She says that although she didn’t make any money from the success of the first book, the income from the second book allowed her to quit her day job. Then Bedding the Billionaire hit the NYT bestsellers’ list and the rest is history.
