Self-published author Tina Reber has signed a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster. Her hits Love Unscripted and Love Unrehearsed will be re-released by the company’s Atria Books imprint in September as ebooks, with trade paperback editions coming in January 2013.
The story of a small-town pub owner who gets involved with a Hollywood star, Love Unscripted has sold close to 100,000 copies via Amazon and has consistently been in the Top 100 ebook sales lists. The sequel Love Unrehearsed, which continues the story from the first book, has also been a hit, earning Reber a strong fan following.
This isn’t the first time that Atria Books has picked up a successful indie author. In July the company signed to take on Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster, while earlier this month Colleen Hoover’s Slammed was added. It’s notable that in each case, the deal seems to be for the rights to existing successes, with no word as to whether the authors themselves have been signed up for deals regarding their future output.
