With Amazon having recently launched new options for KDP authors in India, attention is now turning to similar deals they might open up for other countries. And now it looks like Japan and China could be next on the list, judging by KDP support emails referring to new Author Central opportunities.
There’s been no official announcement, but some time between the 8th and 15th of August Amazon added amazon.cn and amazon.co.jp to the list of countries for which authors can set up Author Central profiles. Apparently the Chinese Author Central link isn’t working yet, but the Japanese one is functioning. There’s apparently no plan for an Indian Author Central profile, with information seemingly being populated from the amazon.com details.
It’s been reported before that Amazon is planning to make a move in Japan and China. Both these countries have significant numbers of English-speaking readers, though. It remains to be seen whether Amazon will offer separate pricing and royalty options for the new country options.
