Amazon has released submission details for the new Kindle Serials program. As expected, it’s not a free-for-all and authors have to submit a number of items to support their proposal:
- A pitch that outlines the nature of the work, the number of instalments, and why it would suit the serial format.
- A minimum of two instalments, each of a minimum 10,000 words. There seems to be some leeway on instalment length for accepted serials.
- A one-page synopsis of the book, and a one-page author bio.
So far, there’s no news on royalty rates, how often instalments are expected to be made available, or even whether all serials will be tied into the $1.99 price point. More details are likely to come out in the next few days. It’s also not clear what criteria are used to judge submissions, how many they’re looking to accept, and whether certain genres (e.g. erotica) are allowed.
