Less than 24 hours before Amazon launches its new Kindles, Kobo has unveiled its own new devices:
- The Kobo Mini has a five-inch e-Ink display with built-in wireless internet. At $79.99, it’s designed as a low-cost entry device.
- The Kobo Glo has a six-inch e-Ink display with ComfortLight technology, making it ideal for reading in the dark. The price will be $129.99.
- The Kobo Arc is a next generation seven-inch HD Android tablet with a resolution of 1280x800px. This is the new Kobo that has all the bells and whistles, and is expected to sell for $200 (8GB) and $250 (16GB).
You can get more details of the various devices here. Kobo is clearly going for specialisation with the devices: each has a specific selling point and a price tailored to match. At $79.99, the Kobo Mini in particular looks like a very decent device. Of course, the context of Kobo’s launch is a little skewed given that we’re anticipating new Kindles later today; depending on what Amazon announces, Kobo’s slate could look very different (either better or worse) by the evening.
