A US literary agent has suffered a pretty frightening incident after a man allegedly assaulted her while she sat in her car. Reports suggest that the man who attacked Pam van Hylckama was allegedly an author who had been rejected by her at some point previously.
Recounting the tale via Twitter, van Hylckama says she initially thought she was being car-jacked, and that she was shocked when police investigated and told her it was actually someone who had sent her a query. Fortunately, she seems to have escaped without serious physical injuries.
The age of the internet means that many people share huge amounts of information online, often without thinking of the consequences. As van Hylckama notes, she wasn’t really aware of how much details she was giving out about her life via social media. Perhaps authors should also be a little more careful, just in case someone out there really really really doesn’t like your book…
