The KDP Select borrow rate for August was $2.12, according to Amazon. That’s a slight rise over recent months, and ends a downward trajectory that has been developing since April’s high of $2.48.
When the rate dropped to $2.04 last month, authors of $2.99 books faced the prospect of getting less for a borrow than for a sale. At $2.12, that’s (marginally) no longer the case. The general pattern now seems to be for the rate to fluctuate around the $2 to $2.40 range, although the recently-launched additions to the Kindle range might knock earnings over the next few months.
